IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GENUINE EXPERIENCE IN THE WILDERNESS THEN A SKI-EXPEDITION INTO "VASSBOTNDALEN" IS A GOOD CHOISE. AND IF YOU LIKE A KIND HUSKY IN FRONT WILL HELP PULL YOU ALONG. MIDWAY WE TAKE A SHORT REST TO GATHER STRENGTH BEFORE CONTINUING ONTO UOR BASE CAMP, WHERE RELAXING DAYS WITH ICE FISHING, THE NORTHERN LIGHT AND GOOD LOCAL MEALS AWAIT.

SKIING-EXPEDITION (3day example):
DAY 1: From the start point in "Talvik" we proceed to the "Vassbotn" valley. The first climb from the valley is a bit steep and the help of a willing Husky is welkomed. The valley is approximately 20 km long U-shaped with the Vassbotn-river winding through it. Rougly half way is the "Bydals"cabin, here we make a warm lunsj of "Bidos" (reindeer soup) a Sami favourite. After lunsj we continue until we reach the "Ulve"- valley, which we follow south for a few kilometres, climbing to 5-600 metres above sealevel, where it is possible to encounter wolverine. Early eavning we shall reach base camp at "villrein" lake, a cabin and two pre-heated "gammer" (large traditional tents) await us. Then it"s stroke the fire and a "Finnebiff" (reindeer stew) dinner and a good bottle of wine (no alcohol laws for skiers)...

DAY 2: After a good breakfast, it’s on with the skis, and 30 minuets later we are at the lake ready for ice fishing with line and bait. Weather permitting lunch is taken on the ice. Before returning to camp baited lines are lowered through the holes in the ice (a snik) for the fish preferring to eat at night! Back at the camp a samisk speciality “buljong kjøtt” (reindeer meat) and a drink around the campfire to round off the day. With full moon and hopefully aurora borealis, an evening stroll is a wonderful experience.

DAY 3: The third day begins with pulling up the baited line after breakfast, before we begin our journey back down to the fjord, a break for lunch half way, and then down the last few kilometres for the waiting transport back to Alta. Showers and a sauna await before we go our separate ways after a marvellous ski tour in the Finnmark wilderness.
